Demon’s Souls on PS5 is a from-the-ground-up remake of the 2009 classic that started the Souls genre. The kingdom of Boletaria has been swallowed by a colourless fog, and you enter it as a lone warrior trying to end the demon plague. Every system from the original has been kept, while the presentation has been rebuilt for modern hardware.
About the game
The game is split into five worlds reached from a central hub called the Nexus. Each world is a chain of stages ending in a boss, and you can tackle them in almost any order. Combat is deliberate: every swing costs stamina, blocking and rolling have to be timed, and enemies punish greed. When you die you lose your souls, the currency used for levelling and shopping, and must return to the spot where you fell to recover them. The remake adds a photo mode, a fully orchestrated soundtrack, character creation with far more options and loading times measured in seconds. World Tendency, a hidden system that shifts each world between light and dark depending on your actions, is still in place and still changes which enemies and items appear.
