The Last of Us Part I on PS5 is a ground-up remake of the original game. The story of Joel, a smuggler, and Ellie, the teenage girl he is hired to escort across a collapsed United States, is unchanged, but everything around it has been rebuilt to the standard of Part II.
About the game
Twenty years after a fungal infection destroyed society, Joel takes a job moving Ellie out of a military quarantine zone, and the trip becomes a year-long journey through overgrown cities, flooded towns and mountain forests. Gameplay balances stealth, scavenging and tense combat against both infected and hostile survivors. The remake gives enemies the smarter behaviour of Part II, so they flank, communicate and react to sound, and it adds dodge-free but more responsive controls, improved aiming and updated crafting menus. Visually every character, location and cutscene has been redone, with new facial animation that makes performances land harder. The Left Behind chapter, which tells Ellie’s story before she met Joel, is included. On PS5 loading is instant, there are 60 fps and 4K modes, 3D audio helps you track threats and the DualSense controller adds feedback for weapons and the environment. The accessibility suite from Part II is included in full.
